People often ask me why I decided to open The Center for Creative Expression at this stage of my life.

The answer is simple.

Because I’ve spent my entire life preparing for it.

Looking back, I can see that every chapter of my journey led me here, even when I didn’t realize it at the time.

I’ve been blessed with a career that has taken me around the world. I’ve spoken to audiences on four continents, written more than two dozen books, coached leaders, interviewed remarkable people on television, built businesses, and helped others discover strengths they never knew they possessed.

Along the way, I learned something important.

Every person has a story.

Every person has creativity.

And every person longs to be seen, encouraged, and given permission to become more than they imagined possible.

For many years, I expressed creativity through words. Writing became my profession and my passion. As an award-winning author, editor, and publisher, I had the privilege of helping countless people tell their stories.

Then life introduced me to another form of healing.

Painting.

When I first picked up a paintbrush, I wasn’t trying to become an artist. I was searching for peace. What I discovered was something much greater. Art taught me to slow down, to observe, to trust the process, and to find joy in creating rather than striving for perfection.

During the years I lived in South Africa, I fell in love with the beauty and majesty of African wildlife. My camera became a constant companion as I photographed elephants, lions, giraffes, and countless other animals in Kruger National Park. Those unforgettable experiences eventually found new life on canvas, becoming a series of paintings that continue to remind me that creativity begins with seeing the world differently.

As my artwork evolved, so did my understanding of creativity itself.

I realized that creativity isn’t limited to artists or writers. It belongs to entrepreneurs who build businesses, teachers who inspire students, parents who nurture families, volunteers who strengthen communities, and anyone courageous enough to imagine a better future.

Creativity is one of the greatest gifts we’ve been given.

Yet so many people spend years believing they aren’t creative because someone once criticized a drawing, dismissed a dream, or convinced them they weren’t talented enough.

I wanted to change that.

The Center for Creative Expression was created as a place where people can rediscover their creative spark in a welcoming, encouraging environment. A place where beginners feel as comfortable as accomplished artists. A place where writers find their voice, painters find their confidence, friendships are formed, and inspiration is shared freely.

This is more than a place to take classes.

It’s a community.

It’s a gathering place.

It’s a place where people come to learn, create, encourage one another, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.

Whether someone walks through our doors carrying a paintbrush, a manuscript, a sketchbook, or simply a dream they’ve been afraid to pursue, my hope is that they will discover something valuable here.

Not only new skills.

A new belief in themselves.

After all these years, I’ve come to understand that success isn’t measured by the number of books we’ve written, speeches we’ve given, paintings we’ve sold, or awards we’ve received.

It is measured by what we’ve made possible for others.

That is the true purpose behind The Center for Creative Expression.

And I believe its most meaningful stories are still waiting to be written.
